CUPE refuses to respond in negotiations: Over four day period CUPE ignores Vancouver’s offers

CUPE ignored all wage and term offers by Vancouver negotiators during bargaining.

CUPE 15, CUPE 1004 and CUPE 391 were all offered a five year deal with pay increases of 16.5% over five years. The offer is within one percentage point of the District of North Vancouver’s settlement, to balance CUPE’s benefit demands.

Not one of the CUPE locals responded to the City’s wage and term offer with a counter offer.

“City of Vancouver negotiators offered all three CUPE bargaining teams, a package that is very close to the settlement accepted by CUPE locals in North Vancouver.” states City spokesperson Jerry Dobrovolny.  “Vancouver made it clear to CUPE that the City had more flexibility, as long as CUPE’s other demands were reasonable. We spent the next four days, waiting for CUPE to come back with a counter offer, and are still waiting.”

“Vancouver made a huge commitment to the bargaining process, with almost two dozen of the City’s senior managers involved,” stated Dobrovolny. “CUPE broke the media blackout, walked away from negotiations, turned their backs on the North Van settlement and a chance to bring CUPE’s strike to a quick resolution.”
