Bike couriers

If you want to operate a courier bicycle for a licensed courier company, you must be 19 years of age or older.

Write the exam

Prepare for the written bike courier exam by reviewing the courier study package.

Write the exam on Wednesdays between 9:00am and 4:00pm at the Development and Building Services Centre, 515 W 10th Ave. No appointment is necessary. Bring your photo ID that shows your name, current address, and date of birth.

You will be notified immediately if you have passed or failed. A pass is 16 correct answers out of 20 questions. If you fail the exam, you may rewrite it on another day.

Buy your bike courier plate

After you pass the bike courier exam, buy your bicycle courier plate and attach it to your bicycle.

The plate expires on 31 December of every year. The fee costs the same no matter when you buy the plate. Replacing a lost or stolen plate is the same cost as a new one.

While operating a courier bicycle, you must always carry photo ID that shows your name, current address, and date of birth.

Renew your plate

In January of each year, you must buy a new bike courier plate. Bring your photo ID that shows your name, current address, and date of birth.

If you have not had a bicycle courier plate in the last three consecutive years, you will have to write and pass the bike courier exam.
