Engineering Services' mission is to deliver exemplary public works that create and sustain a great city of communities. To help meet this challenge, we regularly recruit labourers to work in our Engineering Operations department.
Labourers (Operations Workers)
Engineering Operations is comprised of a group of branches who plan, build, improve, manage, provide and maintain the following essential community services:
- Water supply and distribution
- Sewerage and drainage
- Utility corridor management
- Street lighting and traffic signals
- Streets, lane boulevards, sidewalks and bridges
- Solid waste reduction, refuse collection, disposal, and street cleaning
We accept applications for full-time Operations Workers (Labourers) throughout the year.
Currently hiring:
Streets Operations is also looking for experienced labourers in concrete finishing and forming and asphalt paving. If you are interested in learning these skills please fill out an application specifying Streets.
Sewer Operations is hiring. If you are interested in working in this branch please state this clearly on your application.
This position requires you to perform physical work, outdoors, in all weather conditions.
To qualify, you will need:
- grade 12 or equivalent preferred
- labouring experience
- knowledge of safe work procedures
- the physical ability to lift and push heavy objects
- willingness to learn and the ability to deal tactfully with the public
- a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence
- Class 1 Driver’s Licence, or Class 3 with air, preferred
Applicants being considered may be required to take a pre-employment medical with the City's medical provider, at no cost to the recipient.
Compensation:
Starting hourly rate for an Operations Worker 1 is $22.22/hour, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
