Park Smart: The Granville Mall is Not for All

In 1974 Vancouver Council passed By-law #4792 to restrict access and parking along Granville Street between Hastings and Smithe Streets. The Granville Mall area is primarily designed for Translink buses, and is not open to general vehicular traffic.
The only vehicles allowed access to the Mall include: buses, taxis and limousines, emergency vehicles, custom transit vehicles, bicycles and commercial vehicles with a special Granville Mall permit. Exempt vehicles are still bound by a number of parking restrictions. The major sections of the By-law that are strictly enforced (vehicles ticketed and towed) include:
-
any vehicle stopped on the Mall during rush hour
-
non commercial vehicles on the Mall, or commercial vehicles without a valid permit
-
vehicles not parked parallel to, or more than 1.5 metres into the transitway, or completely upon the transitway
-
taxis or limousines exceeding 3 minutes for loading or unloading
-
vehicles that meet the Granville Mall requirements stopping more than 30 minutes for loading and unloading
-
vehicles in a bus stop
-
vehicles within 5 metres of a fire hydrant
