Park Smart: Large Vehicles and Unattached Trailers

There are two by-laws which define the regulations for parking large vehicles on Vancouver's streets:

Adjacent to a business

Those vehicles which:

  1. seat less than 9 passengers and
  2. are less than 2.2 metres in height and
  3. are less than 6.4 metres in length may park on the street:

for longer than 3 hours, including those hours between 10:00 PM and 6 AM.

Those vehicles which do not meet all three criteria, may not park on a street:

  1. abutting premises used for business purposes for more than 3 hours unless the person, or an employer of the person, owns or leases the premises, or
  2. between the hours of 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM of the following day.

Adjacent to a park, school, church or residence

Those vehicles which:

  1. seat less than 9 passengers and
  2. are less than 2.2 metres in height and
  3. are less than 6.4 metres and
  4. are less than 5500 kg. may park on the street:

for longer than 3 hours, including those hours between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM.

Those vehicles which do not meet all four criteria above, may not park on a street:

  1. abutting property used for a public park, school, church or residential purposes for more than 3 hours between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM , unless the vehicle is needed for a service call or the property is a construction site.

Unattached trailers

A trailer cannot be parked on any city street without being attached to a motor vehicle (a vehicle which is self-propelled).
