Solid Waste Utility Fees

The City of Vancouver garbage, recycling and yard trimmings programs are funded by Solid Waste utility fees that are included as a separate item on property owner's tax notices mailed out in June each year. For strata-titled properties that have City garbage, yard trimmings or recycling service the utility bills are sent to the strata corporation.

Garbage Collection Fees

All residential properties that receive garbage service from the City of Vancouver are billed annually based on the size of their garbage cart. For 2012, annual fees for garbage collection are as follows:

Note: There are a handful of residential properties in Vancouver that receive can (i.e. manual) service. For billing inquiries on these properties please call 3-1-1 (or 604.873.7000 from outside Vancouver city limits) or e-mail garbage.fees@vancouver.ca

Recycling Collection Fees

All residential properties in Vancouver are billed for recycling collection services. The recycling service fee consists of a “collection point” charge (each location that the collection truck makes a stop) PLUS a per dwelling unit charge.

For 2012, the basic recycling fee will be $8 for the "collection point" charge plus $24 per dwelling unit. For example, a single-family home will be billed $8 + $24 = $32 per year. A 2-unit dwelling (duplex) will be billed $8 + (2 X $24) = $56 per year for recycling. See Table B below for more examples.

Note: Some multi-family properties in Vancouver pay an additional rollout fee (on top of the basic recycling fee) if the recycling containers are wheeled out more than 50 metres. For more information on these rollout fees please call 604.873.7190 or e-mail recycle@vancouver.ca
