Street design standards

The City's Engineering Department uses several standards and guidelines to design safe long lasting streets in Vancouver. We use three main standards/guidelines: Street Restoration Manual, Transportation Association of Canada Geometric Design Guide, and the Master Municipal Construction Document.

Street restoration manual

The Street Restoration Manual (SRM) is the City of Vancouver's supplement to the Master Municipal Construction Document (MMCD) construction specifications. The MMCD provides a basis for municipal infrastructure design and maintenance specifications while the Streets Restoration Manual provides additional specifications, procedures and detailed drawings to meet specific needs for construction activities in the City of Vancouver.

Revision history: Changes made to the SRM since the August 2008 release will be listed here.

MMCD manual

The Master Municipal Construction Document specifies measurements and drawings for municipal-related construction.

TAC Geometric Design Guide

The Transportation Association of Canada Geometric Design Guide is used as a basis for the City's Transportation Branch to design City roadways and intersections. Vancouver has expanded upon these standards to provide designs that incorporate the urban environment and better support pedestrians and cyclists.
