 The Ontario Greenway
follows the popular Ontario Bikeway linking False Creek to 59th
Avenue, connecting parks, schools and community centers along the
way. Raised crosswalks, traffic circles, speed humps, and landscaped
corner bulges calm traffic on this 6 km bikeway/greenway. Schools
along the route have participated in the development of the Greenway
by helping to plan demonstration gardens. The street gardens at Ontario and 27th have been planted with native species to compliment the outdoor classroom at General Wolfe Elementary School.
The children’s artwork of butterflies and bugs has been etched
into rocks that form part of the design.
Views of the North Shore mountains to the north and the Fraser
River to the south can be seen from different viewpoints along the route.
Pedestrians use the sidewalk and cyclists share the road with vehicles
along traffic-calmed, mostly residential, streets. Admire the traffic
circle gardens cared for by local residents, ride or walk to Queen
Elizabeth Park, take in a summer afternoon baseball game at
Nat Bailey Stadium, play golf or jog around the Langara Golf Course.
The Ontario Greenway intersects the Ridgeway Greenway and the Seaside
Greenway and will eventually be extended further south toward the
Fraser River.
