Street tree planting and maintenance

Vancouver supports a diverse and healthy urban forest. The Vancouver Parks Board is responsible for the care and maintenance of all public trees in Vancouver including trees that line our streets, are in parks, and along boulevards. Our city streets alone have over 130,000 trees. Arborists working for the Parks Board grow trees at Vancouver's own tree farm and plant thousands of new trees each year. Staff inspects and prunes both park and street trees, responds to thousands of service requests annually, and treats or remove trees when they become diseased or infested with pests. If you’ve noticed a street tree that needs pruning, is a hazard, or is infested with pests, fill in the Parks Board’s on-line request form. For more information on the Park Board and how they manage our street trees visit the Parks Board site.

Street trees and landscaping are a major capital asset to a city. Greenery is one the most effective ways to increase the use and enjoyment of a street and at the same time they play a key role in reducing stormwater runoff and cleaning our air.
