Types of improvements
There are many types of improvement projects available that Council can be petitioned to provide. These include:
- Beautifications
- Bulges
- Curbing and paving (Funding currently unavailable)
- Lanes(Funding currently unavailable)
- Lights
- Sidewalks(Funding currently unavailable)
- Sidewalk Reconstruction
- Speed Humps in Back Lanes
- Traffic circles
- Trees
In order for these projects to proceed, a majority of owners must support the project and be willing to contribute their share of the cost of construction. Owners can demonstrate their support for the project by signing a petition or supporting a City initiative when it is proposed.
The City also contributes towards the project. The cost to owners is dependent upon the type of improvement and the zoning of the affected property. Costs to owners can be amortized over 5 or 15 years depending on the type of project. The details can be found on their Assessment Notice for the proposed improvements.
