Multi-family / commercial lane - full width paving
Lanes in high density or commercial areas experience higher volumes of traffic and heavier loads. To accommodate these conditions the lane is usually designed for a valley gutter with thicker asphalt pavement.
Full width lane paving - commercial/mixed residential
Full width lane paving in commercial areas requires construction crews to remove all debris, minor landscaping, or small structures from within the lane allowance. The lane will be graded to accommodate a thicker pavement and reshaped to form a valley gutter. Any water falling within the lane will essentially be contained and directed towards a storm sewer system at the end of the block.
Scope of work
- clearing and removal of any encroachments or debris
- grading and preparation of the lane
- 130 mm of asphaltic concrete pavement
- connection of shoulders and driveway to pavement
Key benefits:
- removal of temporary surface
- dust reduction
- smoothdriving surface
- clean, tidy and uniform appearance
Improvement charges
Owners are assessed for part of the overall cost of lane construction. The City also contributes towards the overall cost as well. The amount varies depending upon the zoning of the area. The costs for lane improvement projects can be paid in a lump sum or it can be carried over a 15 year period.
The amount each property owner contributes is based upon the assessable length of their property multiplied by the flat rates listed below. Usually the assessable length is the frontage length of the lot. However, there are lots that are unusual in shape and may be eligible for equitable adjustments. Please refer to Assessments for more detail.
