Intent

Implementing transportation improvements depends in many instances on finding necessary financing. Most of the biggest expenditures are for transit improvements and these are likely to continue to come chiefly from the Province. The City will be encouraging the Province to spend its transportation financing in ways which best support the principles of the Transportation Plan. The City will also be allocating its funds over the long term, in support of the measures needed to implement the Plan.

Transportation Plan Policies

  1. The City supports the regional transportation policy of allocating the largest share of Provincial transportation investment to transit, both in the form of buses and light rail transit. (Action F1)

  2. New priorities for pedestrian and transit require a reallocation of a portion of the funds to projects which support these modes. After maintenance requirements, priority projects will include, traffic signals, new sidewalks, Greenways, bike network, wheel chair ramps, and bus stops and shelters. (Action F2)
