Blades & skateboards
Skateboarders, in-line skaters and push scooters use the streets as well. It's safer for you and for everyone one else if you stay on side streets when you skateboard, in-line skate or ride a push-scooter.
The City's Street and Traffic By-Law authorizes Vancouver Police to seize and detain skateboards, and push-scooters as well as hand out fines if these vehicles are used in contravention of the points listed below.
The City of Vancouver by-law requires anyone on skateboards, skates or push-scooters to:
- be 16 or older
- stay off sidewalks
- wear proper safety gear such as helmets, knee and wrist guards
- travel in the direction of traffic and as close as possible to the curb
- stay on local street bikeways or other minor street (those without lane or dividing lines)
- ride or skate responsibly, without being reckless, blocking traffic or endangering the safety and property of anyone
So be safe, not sorry. Stick to the sides and gear up properly!
