Traffic Management: Curbside Regulations

Curbside Regulations Pedestrian, cyclist, and motor vehicle safety is of high importance to the City. Curbside regulations play an important role in traffic management as they help ensure that City streets are being used fairly and courteously. It is important to obey posted signs as vehicles found in violation will be ticketed/impounded.

Some examples of street signage are:

  • No stopping Anytime - installed adjacent to an intersection in order to increase visibility for pedestrians and motorists.
  • Commercial Loading Zone - gives truck drivers convenient access to nearby businesses.
  • 1 Hour Parking - ensures that everyone has an opportunity to access shops in the area.

It should be noted that bylaws are in effect on every street, even if there is no sign present. When deciding whether sign installation is necessary, grade, curvature, visibility and traffic and pedestrian volumes are taken into consideration.

Each year, the streets of Vancouver become busier, and it becomes increasingly important to be aware of the regulations on the roadways. Please refer to the parking branch's page to find more information and examples of typical curbside regulations.

To request information on curbside regulations contact the Traffic Management Branch at 604-873-7020 or fill out a comment form.
