Our team

The Sewer Utility is comprised of two distinct yet equally important groups:

• Design Engineers and their staff who plan, design, and manage the infrastructure.
• Operations personnel who build and maintain the sewer system.

Our Mission

"To proudly create, sustain, and champion sewage and rainwater systems that protect public health, harmonize with the natural environment, and optimize value for the community."

Overall, the Utility employs more than 200 staff to design, build, maintain, and rehabilitate a network of more than 2000 km of sewer mains (a trench length of approximately 1470 km), 26 pumping stations, 45,000 catch basins, and 100,000 sewer connections.

The Sewer utility works collaboratively with property owners and developers, other City of Vancouver branches and departments, Metro Vancouver, outside utility agencies and companies, Vancouver Port Authority, public interest groups, the Province of BC, and the Government of Canada.
