Fire hydrant hit by a motor vehicle (MVA)

If you have been involved in (or witnessed) a motor vehicle accident involving a fire hydrant, please call 311 phone number to report the incident. This should be done after taking care of any injured people. Call 911 to report any injuries requiring medical attention. You will be asked for your contact information as well as the location of the hydrant hit. If you noticed which side of the street the hydrant is on, the street block number or intersection as well as the decal number of the hydrant that would be helpful.

If the Police or Fire Department were on site, please pass their file number on to 311 phone number at the time of the call. If would be helpful to note the vehicle's make, model, colour, license plate number, etc. If the accident involved a commercial vehicle please note the company name on the vehicle as well as its license plate number. If the license plate number you noticed was for a trailer towing the car away please pass that information on as well.

If you witnessed the accident we would appreciate you providing us with your contact information in case we want to contact you for further details. ICBC would also like your contact information. Let us know at the time of your call if we can pass your contact information on to ICBC.

Waterworks will arrange for a Water crew to come out and attend the accident. A call will also be placed to the Fire Department to let their dispatchers know that a hydrant is not currently working 'out of commission'.
