Water worksite complaints
Worksite complaints can deal with any number of areas of the City. The first thing that needs to be determined is which Branch of the City to contact with this concern. The City has numerous crews working for various areas such as Water, Sewers, Streets, Sanitation, Traffic and Electrical, Parks Board, etc. If you can narrow down which Branch is involved in will assist us in dealing with your concern quicker.
The City of Vancouver Road Ahead web site may also have helpful information. It lists major construction projects across City Branches. You can type in your street name in the 'keyword/street' search field.
Some information that will help us:
Determine which crews may have been involved
- Location – address, intersection
- Date and time of incident
- If the crew still onsite:
- Does the vehicle say 'City of Vancouver' on it?
- Can you see a Branch name on the vehicle? e.g. Waterworks Operations, Sewer Operations, Streets Operations
- City vehicles all have numbers assigned to them. Did you see what this number was?
- There may also be temporary no stopping signs mentioning the section working there. Did you see a Branch name on the sign?
- Sometimes other Utilities and private companies are working on City streets. If the vehicles do not belong to the City then the caller should contact the appropriate company. For example, BC Hydro, Terasen, Telus, etc.

Discern the nature of your concern? For example
- construction work – when is it do to be finished?
- reporting construction noise, messy worksites
- blocked pedestrian access
- construction signs down or missing
- dangerous equipment/machine
- road plates - noisy, not covering hole completely
- safety related issues
The City will make every effort to address citizen concerns as promptly as we can. The more information that is passed on to our operators the easier it is to send the request to the correct Section for followup.
Surveys are routinely delivered to affected residents at the conclusion of major Waterworks construction activities. This is an opportunity for homeowners and businesses to provide feedback to the City on how construction impacted their neighbourhoods. Individual complaints are dealt with promptly. A downloadable version of the construction survey (
pdf 61 kb) is available for citizens to share their opinion.
