Water quality information

Our Mission: "To provide our customers with an adequate and sustainable supply of high quality water, affordably and equitably"

Essential for life – your drinking water is important!

The City of Vancouver delivers an average of 360 million litres of high quality water to residents every day. To ensure this water is clean and safe to drink, the City carries out over 13,394 quality tests each year. These tests are measured against Health Canada's Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality and the B.C. Safe Drinking Water Regulations. The monitoring results have consistently shown that our water quality is excellent.

Where does our drinking water come from?

Our drinking water comes from three mountainous watersheds: the Capilano Reservoir, Seymour Reservoir, and Coquitlam Reservoir. These reservoirs are protected areas that are operated and managed by Metro Vancouver and closed to public access to prevent human caused contamination. The water in these reservoirs is surface water collected from rainfall and snow melt. Metro Vancouver treats and tests the water for quality at the source before selling it in bulk to its member municipalities for distribution.
