Mayor Gregor Robertson's speech

Broadway - City Hall Station

Mayor Gregor Robertson, along with members of Council and City staff, marked the opening of the Canada Line on August 17 with a celebration and ribbon-cutting at the Broadway-City Hall station.

Mayor Robertson recognized the City departments and crews who have been dedicated to this project, which was completed several months ahead of time and on budget. Guests and members of the public were also invited to celebrate the occasion, and take part in the opening day free rides.

The Broadway-City Hall station is one of 16 stations along the Canada Line which covers 19 km of track between the waterfront and the airport. It provides a vital north-south connector to our city’s transportation system and links our growing residential, business, health care, and educational centres. It also offers convenient stops to many civic facilities, parks and 2010 Winter Games venues. Group entering Canada Line station

It’s an important part of the City’s overall transportation planwhich supports sustainable ways of getting around. By making transit, walking and cycling priorities in how we shape Vancouver, we’re working toward our goal of being the greenest city in the world.
