Housekeeping
  1. Fire Department access must be kept clear at all times.
  2. Combustible materials shall not be permitted to accumulate in any part of a public corridor, exit, ventilation shaft, crawl or ceiling space.
  3. No accumulation of combustibles in or around a building.
  4. In storage rooms, a minimum 18 inches of clearance must be maintained between the sprinkler deflector and the items stored.
  5. Service rooms must be kept clear of storage. (Mechanical, Electrical, & Laundry rooms). Doors must be labelled and equipped with self closing devices.
  6. Underground parking garages shall be kept clear of combustible storage.
  7. Propane storage and propane vehicles are prohibited from underground parking garages.
Flammable and Combustible Liquids
  1. 1. Maximum 15 Litres of flammable and combustible liquids of which not more than 5 Litres of a flammable liquid can be stored in a dwelling unit.
  2. Flammable and combustible liquids shall not be stored on exterior balconies.
  3. Maximum quantities of flammable and combustible liquids in a building:
    1. 30 Litres Class liquids. (Gasoline)
    2. 150 Litres Class II liquids. (Heating Fuel)
    3. 600 Litres Class IIIA liquids. (Oil)
  4. Quantities exceeding thos above shall be store in a storage room;
    1. Having no openings into the public portions of the building.
    2. Not located below the first story.
  5. Propane shall not be stored in a building.
Fire and Exit Doors
  1. Fire and Exit foors shall be equipped with self closing devices.
  2. Fire and Exit doors shall properly close and latch.
  3. Fire and Exit doors shall not be locked to prevent exit.
  4. Fire doors shall be properly labelled with: FIRE DOOR - KEEP CLOSED in letters a minimum of 30 mm in height.
  5. Suite doors shall be equipped with self closing devices and shall properly close and latch.
  6. No wedges, blocks, or other devices are permitted to hold doors open. Magnetic hold open devices (with permit) are allowed.
Fire Protection Systems
  1. Sprinkler and standpipe systems shall be inspected and tagged annually by an ASTTBC Certified Technician.
  2. Fire Alarm Systems shall be inspected and tagged annually by an ASTTBC Certified Technician.
  3. Emergency Lighting Equipment shall be inspected and tagged annually by an ASTTBC Certified Technician.
  4. Portable Fire Extinguishers shall be inspected and tagged annually by an ASTTBC Certified Technician.
