Through training and experience, Vancouver firefighters learn about the latest developments in firefighting, rescue techniques, medical emergency procedures, public education, control of hazardous materials and more.

Protecting life, property and the environment is our number one goal. That means we respond to a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency incidents. In 2007, we fielded over 43,000 calls, from fires to motor vehicle accidents and other medical emergencies.

About us

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services has over 800 employees and has been protecting our city since 1886.

There are 20 firehalls in Vancouver, plus one training academy and two fire prevention offices. Our operating budget in 2007 was $79 million.

Our fleet includes 54 heavy trucks, two fire boats, 56 light automotive trucks and cars, and over 190 small pieces of portable fire pumps, saws, generators, extrication tools, nozzles and other equipment.
