Vancouver City Council unanimously adopted "A Framework for Action: A Four-Pillar Approach to Drug Problems" in 2001. Since then, a number of Canadian cities have started to approach their own drug problems with some variation of the four-pillar approach.

Some cities have adopted formal reports, some maintain Drug Policy Program websites while others are taking a four-pillar approach without officially adopting the policy.

In July of 2008, the City of Vancouver's Drug Policy Program initiated a national newsletter, Four Pillars Across Canada - Quarterly Update, pulling together news from cities taking a four-pillar approach to drug policy. Please click on the following links to view back issues of the newsletter:
