North America's first supervised injection site opens in Vancouver

Vancouver ¿ Mayor Larry Campbell joined Vancouver Coastal Health CEO Ida Goodreau, former Vancouver mayor Philip Owen and provincial and federal government representatives on September 15, 2003 to announce the official opening of the supervised injection site (SIS) research project, also known as Insite, in Vancouver 's Downtown Eastside.

Vancouver Foundation Creates Four Pillars Fund

To increase support for addictions starting in the Downtown Eastside, Vancouver Foundation has recently established the Four Pillars Fund. Partnering with the City of Vancouver this fund will encourage community projects that make a difference in the lives of people suffering from addictions in the DTES.

Four Pillars Coalition to host Prevention Forum in November

The Mayor's Four Pillars Coalition is sponsoring Visioning a Future for Prevention: A Local Perspective, a public symposium on substance misuse prevention to be held at the Wosk Centre for Dialogue in Vancouver on November 20 and 21, 2003. The prevention symposium will be hosted by Vancouver Mayor Larry Campbell and moderated by CBC Radio's Kathryn Gretsinger.

Focus on Prevention

There has been a lot of discussion and debate in Vancouver in recent years about the impact of substance misuse on individuals, families, and the neighbourhoods in which we live. This discussion has been largely driven by the unprecedented harm from drug misuse that has occurred in Vancouver 's Downtown Eastside.
