Paying your Utilities
General Information
- The City does not accept credit card payments for utilities.
- A fee may be applicable for each returned cheque.
- Postmarks are not accepted as proof of on-time payment.
Utility pre-authorized withdrawals (UPAWS)
- Voluntary program that authorizes the City of Vancouver to automatically withdraw from your bank account the balance owing on your Utility bill on the bill due date.
- Benefits to you:
- Save time and money - no more cheques, stamps, or last-minute rushes to pay.
- No late fees, no discounts lost
- Just complete and sign the Utility Pre-Authorized Withdrawals Agreement Form, (
pdf) attach a blank cheque marked "VOID", and send both to the address listed on the form. - A separate agreement form is required for each utility account being set up on the plan, but only one void, blank cheque per bank account being debited is required.
- To notify the City of any changes to an existing UPAWS account such as financial information, sale of property or cancellation of your UPAWS Agreement, please complete a UPAWS Agreement Change Form (

Online or telephone banking
- In person at your branch or through ATM.
- By using Internet or telephone banking system. You will need to verify that your banking information reflects your current seven digit UTILITY ACCOUNT NUMBER as shown on the front of your Utility bill. If you require assistance with this process please contact your financial institution.
Other ways to pay
- By mail
- Make your cheque payable to the City of Vancouver, include the lower portion of your bill and mail to:

- 24-Hour mail box located at the 12th Ave entrance doors of City Hall. DO NOT include cash.
- In person Monday through Friday, at the Revenue Services Dept (1st floor), 8:30am to 5:00pm, except statutory holidays.
