Aboriginal Affirmation of Culture and Belonging

Pursued to provide an opportunity for aboriginal residents to come together in celebration of their culture and history while showcasing the distinct music, dances and storytelling from each participating group, this project consisted of three separate events that provided opportunities for the presentation of skills learned in workshops by local aboriginal participants as well as performances by established native dancers, singers and drummers.
Outreach toU aboriginal groups in the area such as Knowledgeable Aboriginal Youth Association (KAYA), United Native Youth Association (UNYA), Aboriginal Wellness, Aboriginal Front Door and Native Health ensured a broad representation of distinct First Nations groups including Squamish, Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh as well as urban aboriginals and Métis living in the Downtown Eastside.
