Compulsive Hoarding Landlord and Service Provider Resource Guide

HoardingThe City is developing a comprehensive interdepartmental and intergovernmental task force on compulsive hoarding, co-chaired with Vancouver Coastal Health. There are a number of City departments, community agencies and other levels of government that are impacted by compulsive hoarding.

The Compulsive Hoarding Landlord/Service Provider Survey and Resource Guide project involved interviewing landlords, service providers, mental health practitioners, staff from the City's licensing and inspections and fire departments to determine how the issue of compulsive hoarding is currently dealt with, what resources are currently available and what gaps exist. In an effort to understand the scope of the issue in Vancouver, this small survey attempted to assess the magnitude and frequency that service providers and landlords deal with hoarding and the costs associated with it. The data was compiled and used to provide a starting point for the newly formed Compulsive Hoarding Project. Existing resources utilized by those surveyed were captured and will form the basis of a future reference guide.
