Oppenheimer Park Community Garden
Community gardens bring economic, health, environmental and educational benefits to communities. They can also highlight cultural identities in a neighbourhood. The Oppenheimer Park Community Garden increases community involvement in the local food system and cultural traditions, and improves community capacity to deal with food security.
Community workshops gathered input on the design and use of the gardens.
A small community garden is being created in the north eastern corner of Oppenheimer Park and will be overseen by local organizations.
Oppenheimer neighbours can meet, celebrate, build community and grow their own medicinal and cultural plantings. The garden area will feature a “medicine wheel”. Plants are being carefully selected with community involvement.
