Homelessness…after homelessness…

The City of Vancouver works to reduce homelessness through community grants, the development of social housing and temporary winter shelters, relocation services for those who are homeless and involvement with a regional homeless committee. The Great Beginnings Program team provided support to Headlines Theatre’s “after homelessness…”  theatre production, which sought to create a vehicle to help develop policies to ensure that housing that is created is safe, appropriately supported and affordable.

Headlines Theatre sought out people who had been / are homeless to help create and perform in the play. There were 15 performances with audiences of more than 1,600 people.

A community scribe was at every performance, recording the ideas that came onto the stage and originated from the audience. A Community Action Report was compiled and will be sent to funders, governments and not-for-profit organizations.  Learn more
