Vancouver  businesses are re-inventing themselves as leaders in clean energy, sustainable building practices, and social entrepreneurship. Not content with adopting the easiest or cheapest of approaches developed elsewhere, Vancouver companies are putting the most advanced and audacious approaches into practice today, creating the foundation for a truly sustainable city.

The City leads by example in its own sphere. In 2009 the City’s Greenest City Action Team created a list of immediate projects and longer-term targets to accelerate the City’s work toward sustainability. Already in progress is the City's city-wide composting to turn waste into topsoil, and a brilliant co-generation system at the Vancouver Landfill, which captures greenhouses gases and uses them to create electricity and heat.
