Dog licences help keep your dog and other dogs safe

  • If your dog gets lost, it's got a much better chance of getting returned to you.
  • If we pick up your lost dog, we'll return it to you for free, once per year, avoiding you impound fees.
  • Your dog is added to the Emergency Pet Registry so emergency responders know to look for your dog in a disaster.
  • Dog license fees help the City care for lost and stray pets, and provide pet education and pet adoption services.

License your service dog: it's free of charge

A service dog must have a dog licence. This license is free of charge for service dogs that have a certificate of graduation from a recognised assistant or guide training school, such as:

  • Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS)
  • Personal Assistance Dog Society (PADS)
  • Guide Dog Services

To get a licence for a service dog, provide a copy of the certificate of graduation.

For more information, contact 3-1-1.
