City participates in Mentorship Pilot Project

Nineteen staff from the City’s Engineering, Finance, Accounting and Information Technology departments are participating as mentors to skilled immigrants. The program is being externally evaluated to gauge effectiveness and best practices, and will formally launch on January 19 at 10 am in the City’s Council Chambers.

Newcomer's Guide
The Newcomer's Guide has information about the City of Vancouver and other levels of government, as well as community agencies and services. Intended for newcomers to our city, it will also be useful for long-time residents.

Public Involvement Review (PIR)
In 1996, a review of public involvement in all City processes was conducted. The results were 16 city-wide directions for improvement and Guiding Principles for public involvement, which were adopted by Council in 1998. From this review, staff were asked to develop approaches to implement the Directions. View the PIR report.

Cultural Harmony Awards
The City of Vancouver believes that diversity is a source of strength,vitality and prosperity. In 1996, it established the Cultural Harmony Awards to recognize individuals and organizations that display a significant and sustained commitment to the promotion of cultural harmony in the City of Vancouver.

City Hall Lights Program
The City Hall Lights Program is a pilot initiative to acknowledge significant cultural and religious dates that are celebrated by Vancouver's diverse communities. The program is about recognizing and sharing the many different important dates celebrated by members of our community throughout the year.
