119 candidates file for 27 local government positions

October 10 2014 Voting November 4-15

Vancouver City Hall

A total of 119 candidates, the largest number since 2002 (also 119), filed their nomination documents by the 4:00pm deadline today for 27 positions on Vancouver City Council, the Park Board, and Vancouver School Board to be decided by the November municipal election.

During voting November 4-15, 2014, Vancouver residents will elect for four-year terms:

  • One mayor
  • 10 city councillors
  • Seven park commissioners
  • Nine school trustees

Voters will also vote on three questions on borrowing for the City’s Capital Plan.

How many candidates ran for office in previous elections

In 2011 94 candidates ran for civic office, in 2008 there were 86 candidates, and in 2005 there were 96 candidates.

When nominations can be challenged and withdrawn

The challenge period for candidate nominations ends on October 14 at 4:00pm.

Candidates can withdraw their nomination or have their endorsement by the elector organization withdrawn until 4:00pm on October 17, 2014.

When candidate documents and forms will be made available

Candidate nomination documents are available on the City’s website, and will be available for public inspection in the City Clerk’s office on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

Candidate financial disclosure forms will also be available for public inspection on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, and posted on the City’s website the same day.

Candidate profiles will be available on the City’s website after October 14, 2014.
