Building bylaw information session for contractors and developers

With the sharp increase in one- and two-family building permit applications, the City is continuing to offer information sessions for interested contractors and developers on how the new 2015 Vancouver Building Bylaw relates to these types of applications.

The next session is tomorrow, September 16, and there is still space to register.

What you will learn

The sessions address following topics as they relate to the new building bylaw requirements for one and two family developments:

  • New look, websites, stakeholders, bylaw structure, plumbing
  • Administration provisions
  • Adaptable housing
  • Structural design, spatial, FD access, noise control, venting
  • Secondary suite and lock-off unit requirements for new one- and two-family dwellings
  • Upgrade requirements for alterations to existing one- and two-family dwellings
  • Conversion of a portion of an existing one- and two-family dwellings to a secondary suite or lock-off unit
  • Energy requirements for new and altered one- and two-family dwellings

The sessions will also address the new provisions for performance requirements for reuse and recycling as of September 1, 2014.

Updates to the current Vancouver Building Bylaw are provided on an ongoing basis. Make sure you have printed the current amendments to update your printed version of the VBBL2014. If you have an electronic version all amendments once enacted are merged with the electronic version on the effective date.
