Changes to leaf collection program

Fall colours in Mount Pleasant with Burnaby and Mount Baker on the horizon

New collection schedule for extra leaves that don't fit in your Green Bin

In the spirit of the fall season, our annual leaf collection program will begin shortly and will welcome some new changes.

As part of the updated collection program, leaves that do not fit in your Green Bin will now be collected by City crews over three designated weekends.

Please clear leaves from your sidewalk, boulevard, property, and nearby storm drains and place them in your Green Bin, along with your food scraps and yard waste, for regular collection.

Put any extra leaves that don't fit in your Green Bin into biodegradable paper yard waste bags or bins for collection on the following weekends:

  • October 24-25
  • November 14-15
  • December 12-13
  • January 16-17, 2016 (will include Christmas tree collection)

By properly disposing of leaves, you help:

  • Keep sidewalks and streets for┬ápeople walking and cycling
  • Prevent street flooding
  • Keep Vancouver Spectacular

Street sweeping starts in late November

City crews will begin to clear streets of leaves in late November with added focus on streets with higher volumes of leaves.

Help our crews do a better job clearing leaves by moving your vehicle when temporary "no parking" signs are posted on your street. Move your vehicle to another parking spot by 7:00am on the date shown on the signs.

At times, street sweeping may be delayed in some neighbourhoods with large amounts of leaves. Crews will return to areas as soon as possible to complete the work.
