City kicks off Pride week

"Vancouver is known throughout the world for our remarkable diversity, and we've been a leader in our commitment to equality and inclusion," says Mayor Gregor Robertson.

City Council and the Vancouver Pride Society officially launched Pride Week at Jim Deva Plaza in the heart of Davie Village today with the annual Pride Proclamation.

The ceremony was hosted by Joan-E and the proclamation was accepted by Vancouver Pride Society Co-Chairs Michelle Fortin and Charmaine de Silva.

"Vancouver is known throughout the world for our remarkable diversity, and we've been a leader in our commitment to equality and inclusion," says Mayor Gregor Robertson. "Pride is a great opportunity to celebrate a strong and vibrant Vancouver and all we've achieved together with our LGBTTQ+ community, as we continue to strive for legal and lived equality for all."

Pride Parade

The 39th Annual Vancouver Pride Parade, organized by the Vancouver Pride Society, will take place:

  • Sunday, August 6, 2017
  • Starting at noon

Parade route

As in previous years, the parade will start at Robson and Bute and travel:

  • West on Robson to Denman
  • South on Denman to Beach
  • East on Beach to Jervis

Take transit, bike, or walk to the parade.

Road closures

There will be road closures along the parade route and traffic delays in the vicinity.

What's closed

Streets that will be closed on August 6 (times are approximate):

  • 1000-1100 Robson St. between Burrard and Bute from 7:00am to 2:00pm
  • 700-900 Thurlow St. between Georgia and Nelson from 7:00am to 2:00pm
  • 1100-1600 Robson St. between Bute and Denman from 10:00am to 3:00pm
  • 800-1200 Denman St. between Robson and Beach from 10:00am to 4:00pm
  • 1300-1700 Beach Ave. between Denman and Jervis from 10:00am to 4:00pm

Robson and Denman streets will be re-opened once the parade has cleared and streets have been cleaned.
