March 15 2016

“We are setting the bar for what “Greenest City” means even higher than before,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson.

We are launching the Renewable City Series today with our first event at Telus Garden.

The Vancouver delegates who attended COP21 in Paris will share their experiences and lessons learned.

Mayor Gregor Robertson will join other local leaders to discuss what the Paris Agreement means for residents and Vancouver's shift to 100% renewable energy.

“We are setting the bar for what “Greenest City” means even higher than before,” said Mayor Gregor Robertson. “Vancouver has proven that ambitious green economy goals can be realized, and that Vancouver is a city full of residents and businesses who taking action in the fight against climate change. In the past year Vancouver’s leadership on climate change has gained international exposure, and our Renewable City Strategy will make sure we keep pushing the pace as we transition away from fossil fuels and towards clean energy.”

Join us at a series of renewable energy events

On the heels of COP21 and GLOBE 2016 — North America's largest and most influential sustainable-business leadership summit — there is enormous momentum and opportunity to share, engage, and discuss with residents, businesses, and policy makers to find innovative solutions to help us meet our goal.

We will be hosting a series of events on what our renewable energy future means for:

  • How we travel around
  • The buildings we live in
  • How we do business

A renewable city is for everyone and requires the understanding, ideas, and energy of you to make it a reality.

What is the Renewable City Strategy?

Last year, City Council unanimously approved the Renewable City Strategy — committing Vancouver to becoming a city powered entirely by renewable energy before 2050.

Our goal to become a renewable city is part of our ongoing efforts to be the Greenest City. To achieve it, we will take action to:

  • Reduce overall energy demand
  • Increase the use of renewable energy
  • Increase the supply of renewable energy
