City’s snow removal crews respond to snowfall

February 24 2014

Snow in Gastown

City of Vancouver crews are out today treating major bus routes and roads near hospitals and some schools with salt and sand, as snowfall continues through the day with a snow warning for this evening. Crews will continue to be active throughout the night as snowfall continues.

How City crews are keeping our roads clear

The City takes snow removal seriously and will make consistent, coordinated efforts to keep main throughways clear, including bus routes, bridges, and streets. City crews salted roads and plowed as snow accumulated in some neighbourhoods over the weekend. Efforts are being made to clear snow and slush from catch basins, sidewalks, intersections, and bus stops.

Help keep sidewalks clear and lend a hand

Clear the sidewalk by 10:00am after a snowfall

All Vancouver property owners and occupants (tenants) are responsible for clearing snow and ice from the full width of sidewalks that surround their property by 10:00am on the morning following a snowfall. This responsibility is in effect seven days a week. Property owners and occupants who fail to remove snow and ice may be subject to fines.

Lend a hand to those unable to shovel their own sidewalks

Snow and ice on the sidewalk can be a barrier for many people, particularly seniors and people with disabilities. Lend a hand to people in your neighbourhood who could use help shoveling their sidewalks.
