City adopts comprehensive climate change adaptation strategy
July 25 2012 First municipality in the Lower Mainland
On July 25, Vancouver became the first Canadian municipality to adopt a comprehensive climate change adaptation strategy based on the proven Local Governments for Sustainability (ICLEI) planning framework. Through this landmark strategy, Vancouver joins other leading cities nationally and provincially in preparing for the anticipated impacts from climate change. The strategy recommends practical actions the City can take to incorporate climate change considerations into daily operations and new projects that will build the City’s resilience to increased sea levels, temperatures, storms and precipitation.
