Construction begins on baseball diamonds at Hastings Community Park

July 16 2014

Hastings Community Little League

The Vancouver Park Board is holding a groundbreaking ceremony that will kick off the reconstruction of the little league baseball diamonds at Hastings Community Park.

The groundbreaking takes place Friday, July 18 at 10:30am.

Over 50 years of little league baseball

The two baseball diamonds at Hastings Community Park were built in 1952. Thousands of kids have honed their baseball skills on these fields. The local team – the Hastings All-Stars – won the national championships in 2009 and 2012, and represented Canada in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The new field will be ready in 2016 when Hastings Community Little League will host the Canadian National Little League Championships.

How construction is funded

The Park Board will spend $603,071 to demolish the existing infrastructure on the Hastings site and redevelop the baseball diamonds to modern standards.

Hastings Community Little League is a generous supporter of this project. It has donated $306,000 to date, which includes:

  • a $150,000 grant from Toronto Blue Jays, through Jays Care Foundation
  • $89,000 raised by Hastings Little League
  • a $67,000 grant from the Pacific National Exhibition
