Kick-back and relax at one of six Vancouver parklets

August 25 2015

Parklet

This year marks the second anniversary of Vancouver’s Parklet Pilot Program.

Launched as part of VIVA Vancouver in 2013, parklets have quickly become a unique and welcomed addition to the streets – or should we say parking spaces – of Vancouver.

Parklets are extended platforms over parking spaces that include benches, tables, chairs and landscaping. Designed and sponsored by local businesses or organizations, parklets are welcoming spaces for people to sit, relax and enjoy the city.

The dynamic spaces parklets create help foster a sense of community and are a great way for vibrant local businesses to attract potential customers.

Parklets in Vancouver

  • Hot Tubs Parklet

    By City of Vancouver

Three circular seating areas surrounded by tall grasses, just like an old-fashioned, wooden hot tub. Hop in, have a splash, and connect with neighbours.

Angular benches and multi-level planters. An inviting gathering place near the independent boutiques of Main St.

The original parklet. High backrests, wood-cubed tables, and cedar seating make it a popular hang-out.

  • Commercial Drive Parklet

Steel and wood tables and benches. Have a break and experience the dynamic Drive.

  • Sunny Slopes Parklet

    By City of Vancouver

This two-level parklet makes for twice the enjoyment on the sunny slope of 4th Avenue. Sit, relax, and enjoy the ample seating and mini garden.

Install a parklet

Run a business or organization and are interested in installing a parklet?

VIVA Vancouver is piloting a program for interested businesses and organizations to sponsor and build their own parklets. Once the pilot is complete, the City plans to launch a standalone parklet program.
