Night for All Souls offers evening of reflection and remembrance at Mountain View Cemetery

October 24 2012

Mountain View Cemetery hosts a contemplative evening to honour and remember the dead at its eighth annual Night for All Souls.

This family-oriented community event at the cemetery on October 27 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. offers the chance for reflection and remembrance, with music, warming fires, fragrant teas and materials to make personal memorials. The event will be held at the cemetery’s Celebration Hall (Fraser Street at East 39th Avenue).

Night for All Souls reflects the tradition of many cultures around the world where the days at the end of October and beginning of November are a time for honouring the dead in our lives through ceremony and celebration, and the maintenance of family grave sites.

All Souls events will continue the following week with a performance by Threshold Choir, a screening of the film “Forever” about Pere-Lachaise Cemetery in Paris, and music by the Orkestar Silovica Balkan Brass Band.
