The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation has received a public art donation proposal from the Portuguese Joe Memorial Society. The Society is proposing to install a 4.3 metre (14 foot) tall bronze sculpture celebrating the Coast Salish and European communities historically located at Brockton Point.

The sculpture will depict Joe Silvey, one of Vancouver’s first European settlers, and his first wife Khaltinaht and second wife Kwatleematt. The work will be created by artist Luke Marston, a direct descendant of Silvey and Kwatleematt.

You can share your thoughts on the project and its impact on Brockton Point by completing an online questionnaire by April 30, 2013. If approved, the sculpture will be installed in the fall of 2013.
