Event details

The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's Masterworks Gold series presents Time Tracks.

Maestro Bramwell Tovey’s final season begins with a performance of the Maestro’s own Time Tracks, a collection of orchestral themes from his opera, The Inventor.

Next up is a VSO reunion, as former Concertmaster Dale Barltrop returns to the Orpheum stage with the Australian String Quartet, performing Absolute Jest by American composer John Adams, a work inspired by Stravinsky’s Pulcinella and incorporating and interpreting the music of Beethoven.

Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 is a sweeping epic, defined by his never-ending struggle with fate, and the answer to whether we have free will, or if our fates are determined. This work’s drama and lofty musical ideas, and the composer’s sheer, breathtaking skill, make for a rich and satisfying musical experience in the concert hall.
