Traffic changes at Burrard and Cornwall this weekend

December 6 2013

Burrard Cornwall Intersection

This weekend from 7:00am on Saturday, December 7 to 6:00am on Sunday, December 8, Burrard Bridge and Burrard Street will be reduced down to one lane in each direction, and Cornwall Avenue will be fully closed between Burrard Street and Cypress Street.

Drivers should plan alternate routes, and expect delays. Transit riders should check for temporary bus route and stop changes. Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to travel through the intersection but should pay attention to signage and flag persons.

About the construction project

Construction on the Burrard and Cornwall intersection, at the south end of the Burrard Bridge, began in August 2013 to simplify the intersection and improve safety for all users. When construction is complete, improvements to the intersection will:

  • Improve safety by reducing the maximum number of pedestrian crossings from five down to two
  • Reduce the speed and volumes of vehicles coming off the bridge and entering Cornwall Avenue
  • Make it easier to navigate and safer for motorists, cyclists and pedestrians to use.
