Vancouver golfers can swing all winter long, including Christmas Day!

December 23 2014

Fraserview Golf Course

Golfers in Vancouver can brag to family and friends in colder and snowier parts of Canada about how they golfed on Christmas Day.

Three championship golf courses

For the second year in a row, the Vancouver Park Board’s three championship golf courses—Fraserview, McCleery, and Langara—will be open Christmas Day from 8 am – 2 pm. During the remainder of the holidays, the courses will be open from dawn to dusk.

Pitch & putt

Although the Park Board’s three pitch and putt courses at Stanley, Rupert and Queen Elizabeth parks are closed for the winter, people are still welcome to hit balls on the greens. However, you have to bring your own clubs!

Golf facts about City courses

  • As many as 350 golfers play each course on a good summer day
  • Almost 7,000 people subscribed to the VanGolf app since it was introduced last March
  • Fraserview Golf Course is #1 in terms of number of rounds of golf (55,039 as of end of November), compared to 10 other 18-hole equivalents in the Lower Mainland with McCleery #3 and Langara #4
  • The three courses are designated Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuaries
  • There were 83,094 pitch and putt rounds in 2014 at Stanley, Rupert, and Queen Elizabeth parks

Courses offer nature trails

The golf courses are valuable green spaces and very biodiverse. Langara and Fraserview are also great places to go for walks as both offer nature trails. The trail at Langara is one of the busiest in the city and is left almost untouched in order to provide one of the most natural experiences in Vancouver.
