Experience the sounds of an original and exotic instrument the viola d'amore in the hands of celebrated, virtuosic soloist Garth Knox. A colorful multi-stringed instrument originating in the European Baroque period, and much favored by Vivaldi, the viola d'amore's full harmonic resonance and strikingly subtle and seductive sounds can be heard in a mixture of old and new music, masterfully played by Knox.
Specially commissioned pieces by Farshid Samadari and Donald Stewart are set between Elizabethan melodies, baroque variations along with some newer electronic resonances by Olga Neuwirth, Georg Friedrich Haas and John Zorn.
"(Knox) exhilaratingly liberated every timbre, note or noise his instrument could produce." Queen's Hall, Edinburgh.
