Vancouver Park Board extends season at Kits Pool for another week

September 4 2015

“With its phenomenal views, Kits Pool has been a favourite summer destination for visitors and residents alike since opening in 1931,” said Vancouver Park Board Chair John Coupar. “There’s no place like it in Canada.”

Kits Pool

Extend your summer at Vancouver’s only saltwater pool.

The Vancouver Park Board is keeping Kitsilano Pool – the busiest outdoor pool – open an extra week through to Sunday, September 20.

The last time we extended the season at Kits Pool was in 2011.

“With its phenomenal views, Kits Pool has been a favourite summer destination for visitors and residents alike since opening in 1931,” said Vancouver Park Board Chair John Coupar. “There’s no place like it in Canada.”

Longest salt water pool in North America

Kits Pool overlooks English Bay with views of the North Shore mountains. It has the longest salt water pool in North America, with swimming lanes that stretch for 137 metres. The length of the pool attracts many serious swimmers, including triathletes who use it as a training facility.

The pool has seen as many as 2,000 swimmers a day this year. Last year, the pool averaged 1,400 swimmers a day.

Other outdoor pools to close after Labour Day

Outdoor pools at Second Beach in Stanley Park, New Brighton Park, and Maple Grove Park will close as scheduled after the Labour Day weekend.

The outdoor pool at Hillcrest Centre will close in late September.

Beaches unsupervised after Labour Day

Lifeguards will no longer be supervising the Park Board’s 11 beaches. Vancouver beaches are supervised from Victoria Day through to Labour Day.
