Effective today, W 49th Avenue will be temporarily closed to traffic traveling westbound from Cambie to Heather Street in order to accommodate ongoing work for the Oakridge Trunk sewer upgrades.

The closure will be in effect for approximately two weeks.

Traffic traveling westbound is encouraged to find an alternate route. Westbound buses will be retained, with assistance from traffic control personnel. Residential access is being maintained through back lanes.

The City is upgrading critical sewer infrastructure on sections of:

  • W 49th Avenue
  • W 46th Avenue
  • Tisdall Street
  • Fremlin Street

This section of city sewer is known as “the Oakridge Trunk”. The City will replace the existing sewer, installed in 1957, with a separated sewer system — one pipe for rainwater runoff and one pipe for sanitary sewer. This will also help to better serve this growing neighbourhood.

The City extends its thanks to residents and travelers for their patience while this critical work is completed.

Traffic delays are expected. All road users are encouraged to plan their trips in advance or to connect with the City on the go through VanConnect.
