About One Day
At the City of Vancouver, we believe that big problems can be addressed one small step at a time. We believe that positive and proactive initiatives can change behaviour. Getting started is about taking small steps.
One Day promotes taking small steps to reduce energy use - at home, at work and on the move - so as to make Vancouver the cleanest, greenest, healthiest city in the world. One Day is about leadership and individual actions that each of us can take in our daily lives. It's about health, fitness and well-being. One Day is also about protecting this beautiful place we live in and preserving our quality of life for our children and grandchildren.
The One Day program is the City of Vancouver's community engagement component of our Climate Change Action Plan. The goal of this plan is to reduce community greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 6% from 1990 levels by 2012. Over 50% of the greenhouse gas emissions in Vancouver result directly from individual behaviours, specifically from passenger vehicles and home energy use.
Visit the City of Vancouver's sustainability website to learn more about our updated climate protection targets and what we are doing at the City to help get us there, as well as other sustainability initiatives. You can also check out our progress towards in the 2009 Climate Protection Brochure.
