About Active Communities Vancouver

The City of Vancouver was the first municipality in British Columbia to accept the Provincial Government's challenge to increase physical activity levels of residents by 20%. The Park Board is taking the lead on this initiative by encouraging and supporting Vancouverites to lead more active healthy lifestyles.

SeawallThe good news is that annual surveys on activity levels found that 68 to 70% of Vancouverites are already "active or moderately active". With this benchmark in mind, we continue to set a goal to further increase current activity levels while persuading the more sedentary 30% of residents to join the Active Vancouver team.

The Park Board has pledged to be with residents every step of the way to inspire and encourage notched-up activity levels through specific programs, independent and measured walks and by providing important links and portals to tools of the active trade. Check our Active Communities Vancouver web page often for special events and timely tips on the benefits of a healthier and more active lifestyle!
