About Active Communities Vancouver
The City of Vancouver was the
first municipality in British Columbia to accept the Provincial Government's
2004 challenge to increase physical activity levels of residents 20% X 2010.
The Park Board is taking the lead on this initiative, and what better or more
healthful way for Vancouverites to build up to the 2010 Winter Games, than
cranking up our already active lifestyles?
The good news is that a 2006
survey on activity levels found that 70% of Vancouverites are already "active
or moderately active". With this benchmark in mind, we set a goal to further
increase current activity levels while persuading the more sedentary 30% of
residents to join the Active Vancouver team.
The Park
Board has pledged to be with residents every step of the way to inspire and
encourage notched-up activity levels through specific programs, independent and
measured walks and by providing important links and portals to tools of the
active trade. Check our Active Vancouver Communities web page often for special
events and timely tips on the benefits of a healthier and more active
lifestyle!
